Santorio Fellowship
for Medical Humanities and Science

The scheme is designed to support young scholars willing to join CSMBR events. It runs every two years and is named after the Italian physician Santorio Santori (1561-1636), who introduced the quantitative method to medicine and is considered the father of quantitative experimental physiology.

The scheme offers travel grants to attend CSMBR summer schools aiming at encouraging cooperation amongst scholars across Europe and Worldwide.

The Fellowship is awarded every two years to MA students and early career researchers (PhDs and Postdocs within 3 years from their viva) whose interests in the field of history of medicine and medical humanities are strong.

Successful applicants become affiliated with the centre with the formal title of Santorio fellows and are encouraged to actively engage in the CSMBR scholarly community.

Five Santorio Fellowships, worth €500 each, will be offered throughout as a gratuity to join the 2023 Summer School by means of an application process.

Applicants should send a cover letter (max. 300 words), CV (max. 2 pages) and a reference letter addressed to the Director of the CSMBR within the application deadline.
