VivaMente: The Garden of Ideas

The scheme is devised to promote and sustain the best ideas in intellectual history and history of ideas with adequate economic and logistic support. VivaMente is wider both in scope and time span than any other CSMBR award and it allows scholars to expand freely on any topic, from ancient to contemporary history of science, medicine, technology, and ideas.

The Scheme at Glance

Under this scheme, € 3,000 plus the free usage of the Domus Comeliana (worth an additional €2,500 per day) will be awarded to the best proposals for a max. 2-day event to be held in Pisa. VivaMente Conferences are held preferably in the spring.

Application Process

VivaMente is a highly competitive award that provides a prestigious platform to senior as well as to young scholars willing to advance scholarly knowledge internationally.

Applications ought to meet the QRI criteria

criteria: quality, relevance, and internationality.

Events eligible under this scheme are colloquia, conferences, workshops, public engagement events (including engagement via media, figurative and performing arts), public lectures and similar. Previous experience in organising large events is desirable and, for this reason, the scheme requires the endorsement of a CSMBR Permanent Member. Associates members, Santorio Fellows and any other external applicants will be able to access it via a partnership with any Permanent Member. The proposal should not exceed 1,000 words and must include a detailed description of the event, including how it meets the QRI criteria, state-of-art, name and number of invited speakers, time schedule, additional sponsors (if needed) as well as to whether the organiser/s intend to ask for any registration fees.

VivaMente events are usually intended for an audience of 20/30 delegates, but depending on the needs of the organiser/s it is possible to accommodate up to 50 persons.
