VivaMente: The Garden of Ideas

The scheme is devised to promote and sustain the best proposals in intellectual history and the history of ideas with adequate economic and logistic support. VivaMente is broader in scope and time frame than any other CSMBR grant, allowing scholars to freely explore any topic, from ancient to contemporary history of philosophy, science, medicine, and technology.

The Scheme at a Glance

Under this scheme, €5,000 plus the free usage of the Domus Comeliana (worth an additional €2,500 per day) will be awarded to the best proposals for a max. 2-day event to be held in Pisa. VivaMente Conferences are held preferably in the spring, from March to May.

VivaMente is a highly competitive grant that provides a prestigious platform to senior and early scholars willing to further the intellectual debate internationally.

Application Process

Applications ought to meet the QRI criteria

criteria: quality, relevance, and internationality. Eligible events are lecture series, colloquia, seminars, conferences, workshops, classic or digital exhibitions, as well as public engagement events (including via media, figurative and performing arts), and similar.

The scheme is open to scholars of all careers and stages but previous experience in organising large events is desirable. For this reason, the scheme requires the endorsement of a CSMBR Ordinary Fellow. Applicants will submit an application form complete with their CV, a separate spreadsheet of costs (here) and, in case of external funding, a letter of commitment from each of the funding institutions

institutions involved.

The proposal should not exceed 1,500 words and must include a detailed description of the event, including how it meets the QRI criteria, state-of-art, name and number of invited speakers, time schedule, additional sponsors (if needed) as well as whether the organiser/s intend to ask for any registration fees.

VivaMente Conferences have a main focus on intellectual history and history of ideas but a multidisciplinary dimension is welcome and strongly encouraged.

Events hosted at the Domus Comeliana are intended for an audience of up to 40 persons.
