SUDHOFFS ARCHIV

Journal for the History of Science and Medicine

Established in 1917 by Karl Sudhoff (1853-1938), the founder of the history of medicine as an independent academic discipline, Sudhoffs Archiv is today the world’s oldest continuously published journal of the history of science, devoted primarily to the source-based analysis of the history of the natural sciences, mathematics, and medicine.

Sudhoffs Archiv is committed to a strict historiographical perspective and dedicated to the source-based analysis of the history of the natural sciences, mathematics and medicine. Sources may be primarily textual, object-based or oral transmissions suitable for elucidating questions of the history of science. It is international in approach and is not confined to a specific period or discipline. It publishes articles in German, English, and French. Articles are selected for publication by peer review. Since 1961 the journal is flanked by a supplement series.

Submissions must be original articles (no translations) that must not be previously published. During the review process, manuscripts may not be submitted elsewhere. A manuscript submitted to the journal must be ready for publication, the editors do not accept partial or draft versions. In initial submissions, the citation rules of the journal do not have to be strictly followed. Please pay attention to the anonymization of your text so that your identity as the author cannot be ascertained directly or indirectly (e.g. by acknowledgments and self-references in footnotes).

All submissions are subjected to double-blind peer review. The review process can result in acceptance, the recommendation of revisions or rejection of the manuscript. The author is informed of the decision by email. The editors attempt to reach a decision within 3 months.
